When, in 1984, I moved to the Tampa Bay area (which includes Tampa, Clearwater, and St. Petersburg), all I knew of Florida was pictures I’d seen and what I’d heard about Miami. I was surprised to see Oak Trees, grand moss-hung Century Oaks…pleased by the varieties of Palm Trees and enchanted by the lush and colorful flora and fauna. Summer can be hot and humid, but not different from other places I’ve lived – New York, New England, Chicago, Boulder and Denver, Colorado…Hot is hot anywhere! However, from October through May, it’s heaven! Roses bloom in January! We do get cold, sometimes 30 degrees, but that’s not often and only overnight, then it’s beautiful during the day.
The true test of a good place to live is the people, and the people here are the friendliest, most welcoming you’d hope to find. Schools are mainly good, always being “tweaked” to high standards. Shopping is wonderful: huge malls and all the major and discount stores you know and love. Home Depot and Lowes, too! Beaches are close by, and many Florida attractions are within an hour and a half. Enjoy theatre, art, dance, museums, concerts, fabulous restaurants, stadium seating movie theatres, and great night life! The Tampa Bay Bucs, Lightning Hockey, Devil Rays Baseball... and the NY Yankees have their Legends Field here, too! We have parks, playgrounds, tennis, golf, zoos, nature trails, boating, fishing…well, you get the idea, I hope. We have fun for everyone!
